Weight transfer

Moving your body weight fully from one foot to the other, the basic unit that every step is built from.

A step in dancing is really a transfer of weight: your body moves so that it settles balanced over the new foot, rather than the foot moving while you stay put. Clean weight transfer is what makes dancing look grounded and lets you change direction on time.

Many timing and balance problems disappear the moment a dancer commits their weight fully onto each foot instead of hovering somewhere between them.

Also called: weight change.
