Natural turn

A turn that rotates to the right, clockwise, one of the two basic turning figures in the ballroom dances.

A natural turn rotates the couple to the right, clockwise around the floor. It is called 'natural' because for most people turning to the right feels like the default direction.

Paired with its mirror image, the reverse turn, it gives the smooth dances their curving path around the room. Learning both, along with the contra body movement that starts them, unlocks most of the ballroom vocabulary.
