Chassé
A quick side-together-side movement where one foot chases the other, used to travel smoothly across the floor.
A chassé is a little three-part travelling step, out to the side, close the other foot to it, and out again, danced quickly so it flows as a single movement. The name comes from the French for 'to chase', because one foot seems to chase the other.
It shows up all over the ballroom dances, especially the quickstep and waltz, as a smooth and efficient way to cover ground.
Also called: chasse.
